you've got a razor tail and it either hits you in the back of the ankle or somehow manages to catch your toe and cut it! Especially when the top part of your shoe is soft as fuck, that's never good.

Also, when you've got a few hundred quid on you and you're skating at your local park and 20+ somalians bop in from the local football pitch next to you. That's also not one of my favourite things to occur, even worse, is when they hang around at the park, giving you the evils. Never a sought after thing really, you'd think that when the re-assuring sound of a police siren appears and they flee it'd be good. But to make things worse, they happen to linger in a badly lit alleyway which you have to pass on your way home on your home and you're obviously outnumbered!

Also, when you want to skate on a weekday and everyone's at work or at college and your only scummy friends who don't have a job or got the boot from college don't have a phone and if they do, don't answer it. That's never good. Saying that, it's not midday yet, so they're obviously still asleep!

I might just go to Cantelowes, always a safe bet!

FAO to all the ladies reading this, if any! Doug is looking for some love, he said he hasn't been laid in 8 months so.... y'know.

Late night city missions

Is where it's at, skating until 3 in the morning. Watching pissed up city workers wanting a go on your deck and eating shit. Getting around to skating spots that you've only ever seen from the bus. Going down new alley ways and streets and finding new spots and places. Not skating with a camera, eating shit on a big set of stairs and making your trick when you didn't think you had it. Cheap cider. Giving grief and making comments when people are openly kissing on the street. Making bets on tricks for nuggets and cans. Watching people slam on tricks and not getting their nuggets on cans (Doug). Watching people land said trick easily (Elliot). Skating Chalky ledges in the square mile and talking with the police and them not giving a fuck about you skating, even though it's "illegal".

Elliot's been out filming even more tricks for the video along with Kev, Doug owes people money, Rupert's in Brighton at it as per usual, Marcus is doing some demos! Christ I feel sorry for those who have come to watch! (Only messing Marcus!)

went down this weekend. Rupert cam up from Brighton to London on Friday to get a few things, he ended up tweaking his ankle trying to get something on a sketchy handrail in Brighton on Saturday though, get well soon mate.

Kev now has 2 different swellbows on the same elbow and some bruised balls after playing around on the rail at Meanwhile's bowl trying to get a trick down on it, but unfortunately it didn't happen. He's going back there in a few days to try and put it down.

Our mate Louie from Bury was down in London this weekend too and ended up missioning around the whole city with us. I bet he loved trecking from King's cross to Kingston and back on the bus with us when it was 4 in the morning and freezing for the sake of getting footage for "Road to nowhere"! Doug and Kev were trying to get to this house party that flopped at the weekend, another very interesting story for you there.

Elliot didn't end up filming on Saturday because he got arrested in Camden Town tube station with 7 benzes on him, figure that one out for yourself. He did tell a pretty gnarly story about some of the feds in Holborn nick, proving that institional racism does exist. I'm not sure if it'd be too wise to put the rest up on here, ask him yourself if you want to hear it, but it's quite a gnarly little story! Lucky enough he was out of his cell at 11pm and ripped it the next day, he must have filmed about 10 tricks around Euston and Victoria on Sunday. There's a good few NBDs in there, shame you're not going to see them for a few months! We found this set of stairs with a metal chain at the bottom of them in Victoria which he rinsed out.

Another highlight of the weekend was when Kev was skating a spot and ended up getting in a conversation with someone who looked like they wanted to mug him and eyeing up the VX, only to be told he had some "Sick up 5-0 grinds!" and explained different tricks to him and how they worked.

Also, if you see Alex Lally, make sure you call him "Bam boy" and not his real name, he finally admitted to the name getting on his tit and most people find the name amusing. Bam went to Birmingham this weekend to his grandma's 70th birthday party in Birmingham, he had to get there on a ticket where he had to pretend he was 11 years old, fuck knows if that one worked out.

Oh and in other news, TM Marcus has got some new gashment b the name of Chanelle. Some girl on his estate offered him £200 a day to fuck her the other day so she could get pregnant and get a council flat, of course she wasn't planning of trying to fuck him over in the future to get benefits. Also from the Hounslow bits, Marcus' mate has now got a girl and her mum pregnant. Imagine how that conversation started and ended.....

Just over a year has passed

since the first batch of Gyppo Army boards arrived at "the office" and a fair bit has changed since then, looking back, it has been a good year full of ups and ups and downs but overall it's been worth it. I can't wait to see what the next year brings, probably even more drinking on street kerbs, smoking roll ups under doorways getting some protection from rain, jamming in the back of vans to get to the next skate spot on the road which never seems to end...

I did end up getting a chocolate cheesecake made, but I was hungry and ate it before we ended up writing anything on it. To be honest, I was more keen to write "Yammin' 'n' papsin'" on it, but decided on saving the milky bars which were going to be used for it for another day.

I decided to pike a picture from Google from "Alex's" first birthday. God knows who Alex is, or if he'd be stoked on having a picture of his cake up here, but it is....

Doug, Elliot, Rupert and Kev were at War of the Roses this weekend. Kev and Elliot won some cash at Leeds, Elliot for doing a nollie front foot flip over the big hip and Kev in the bowl. Doug slammed horribly and you might have seen him walking around the park with his balls in his hand whilst Rupert got a megabus which took 7 hours from Brighton and spent most of his time lurking outside playing games of skate. Gyppo Army friend Bam Boy (a.k.a. Alex Lally) somehow got up to Leeds and won some serious loot in the unsponsored vert wall comp, he then ended up lurkin' on Powley's floor and in his van and made his way to Blackpool and then back to London, whilst winning even more loot at Blackpool!

16 hours on a Eurolines coach, 4 hours on a boat. 4 hours waiting in coach station. Watching 6 guys high on crack in a tube station, looking at Armed soldiers with AK47s approaching guys smoking weed in République metro station, seeing people trying to flog those fucking annoying Eiffel tower keychains (glowing and non-glowing) that nobody really wants, 12 litres of Stella, 2.3 litres Despardos, 2 bottles of wine that tastes like vinegar, 150 (odd) cigarettes, 3 and a half days, 3 nights, 3 sleepness nights, 2 days of rain, half a day of snow, dogshit on griptape, skating in the pissing rain, skating in wet socks, jeans and tee shirts, banks under bridges, 2 slams to the head, 2 bruised hips, 3 creaky knees, 2 pissed off boat lurkers, 2 romanian women sent back home for getting caught stealing tobacco on the boat, €10 a day to live off of, €6 a day on booze, 10 metro journeys bunked, finding ways to re-use tickets, 180 minutes of footage.

It's hard too tell a story about this trip, but all in all it was a plain simple skate trip, out before midday, back before midnight, getting more drunk after midnight and repeat.

I can't wait until the next one.

On top of that Kevin recently went on a race to promote the new Skate 2 game which was a bit of a giggle along with Pete King and Darryl Dominguez. It was a race across Central London just to see which method of transport would be quickest between driving, skating, walking and catching the tube. Kevin was on the top and came 3rd which was a bit shit! It was all good though getting paid a bill and a half as well as getting a Fs Krooks on a ledge at Southbank too!

as normal, I recieved a text from Aaron with the usual sentence "Kev bell me", so that I did. It turns out he and Marcus were in the pub and they hatched a great idea up.

So, the great idea was that Marcus is now the new Gyppo Army TM. He'll be in charge of making sure your favourite riders/idiots are constantly filming and taking photos of tricks that you love to see them do! How good a job is that?

I, more than anyone else, wish him the best of success. He'll fucking need it!

I'm keen to see what devastation he'll end up causing and how this idea will backfire on me in a few months time, but, on the plus side, it'll probably end up as a good pub story a few years down the line!

Well it's the new year, as I'm sure you all know.

Fuck knows what to type on this blog, at the moment I'm listening to Wu Tang Clan and N.W.A. and I just had some brocolli and cheese soup with toast which was surprisingly nice!

Kev and Aaron had a skate down Unit 1 yesterday. Coops drove us there in his ghetto as fuck car which we had to push down the road to get started and then jump into it as Coops got the engine into gear. We picked up local spig Pas and met up with Grot and a few others at the park. Aaron clicked his knee cap out of place and Kev slammed off of a ledge into the bowl landing on his shoulder and on his head.

Elliot was seen down Kingston skatepark the other day drinking cheap wine out of a plastic cup and doing nollie trés over the hip.

No sighting of Doug either.

Marcus ended up getting into a fight with a girl in the mill the other day, I'm not sure who started it but both sides gave as good as it got. If you see me in real life I'll go into a bit more detail, you're better off going to Aaron though.

Still working on the website, it should be in flash this time around.

I went to drop some boards off at Natterjacks in Kingston earlier on today. But before that I had a little sesh down Kingston skatepark with Marcus which was pretty fun. We both flew off the edge of the halfpipe a few times! We had to leave the park early on as it closes at dusk in the winter and Steve put his chains all over the ramps.

Probably going to go down to Cantelowes tomorrow and have a sesh in the bowl tomorrow if the weather's good!

I'm trying to finalise a date for the next Gyppo Army days demo which will be in Xscape Castleford at some point next month. Keep posted on the blog for more information in the future!

Poppin' bottles!

I (Kev) have always wanted to work in a pub. Yesterday on my way to Halfpipe skate in West London to deliver them a new batch of boards, I saw a notice on the door of The Rocket pub in Euston saying that they were looking for staff, after a filling in a brief application got told that I got the job half an hour later. I started work that night and the place is fucking rad. They've got a good selection of brew at a decent price, pool tables, big T.V.s and all of the staff are friendly as fuck! It's definitely worth a check out if you're in the area!

I had a skate down Stockwell on Friday which was pretty sick, it took a fucking age to get to on the bus as there was a pretty gnarly shoot out in the Camberwell area the other day. It was a bit wet there though but still fun. When it got dark myself and a few other chumps got a few tinnies from the shop and headed to Blackfriars to skate the ledges on John Carpenter street and then the banks for a mellow sesh to kill it off. After a while I needed a piss and they had a pretty good anti drink driving ad in the pub next to the banks when you go into the cubicle. Go and check that out if you're in the area too!

Anyways on a random one, here's a photo of Doug doing a frontside lipslipe over the sketchy as fuck ledge which bridges the Gonz gap at Royal Oak (or Meanwhile 2 depending on what your preferred name is.) It isn't there anymore seeing as Freestyle resurfaced the park as well as adding new bits to the street course and they had to take the ledge down. The colours ended up being a bit dodgy on the photo, but I thought that I might as well put it up here as it won't see the light of day anywhere else!

I'm going to do my own little version, it's called "smart alec of the year" and it's split between Doug and Elliot of choosing the best place in the world to light a zoot, which was in a car park full of kids. Well done lads

Anyways, we did the Gyppo Army Days demo at Pioneer skatepark last weekend which was alright, I filmed a few things there too so if the shutter speed and light balance were fine expect to see a clip up on the internet sometime soon.

The next demo will be at Castleford skatepark, the date is tba yet. It's likely to be in the last week of December though.

Vodka slams round 2 will be happening sometime soon too. Still have to sort out a location and date for that one as well!

We're going to be heading up to the Vans mini ramp championships next weekend too. Look out for the teenage athletes who spend more time in the car park smoking fags and doing other things than actually in the skatepark skating.....

it has been 10 days since I last posted something up here, I'm slacking on this front!

On a brief one of what activity has been happening.

Kev and Aaron went to Amsterdam, we took the coach, it was 12 hours long and Aaron seriously fucked his knee doing an ollie on a funbox, so we spent our time doing things that you'd be expect to go down in Amsterdam, such as going to the Van Gogh musuem, the Ann Frank museum and playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with prostitutes!

I (Kev) have been learning some new tricks, maybe you'll see them in image form in certain UK publications, maybe I'll just do a couple of them at my local park then head off to the pub!

If any certain bodies from Vans are reading this, especially any scousers involved with website work, take out your notepad and write down that, yes, I'm still on making that video which will increase your shoe sales!

Oh and I took £11 off of John Cardiel in multiple games of Rock, Paper, Scissors starting off with £1. Normally I'm the worst gambler in the world, but I got lucky and afforded to get more pissed, plus get the bus home, which I didn't actually get and ended up skating home.

Oh and my internet alias has to change as someone pointed out too me that I'm not actually "Meanwhile Kev", that title belongs to Kev Firth, so now I'll guess I'll have to be known as Cantelowes Kev (only to find out a few years later that somebody called Kev skated there in the 80s which isn't really that unlikely!)

On a last skateboard related note, Gyppo Army boards will be available in "Another" skate shop, which is a new SOS shop opening in Brighton on December 1st as far as I'm aware. Stevie Thompson is behind that one so you all now know where to go and spend your money and more importantly which product to buy!

Kev and Aaron have come back from Italy. After landing in Milan airport we drove 3 hours south and spent an extended weekend living in the lap of luxury. We were put up in the finest hotel eating the finest cuisine and drinking 40 euro bottles of wine each night, all on the card. Who's stoked? Well, Kev definitely was, as was Aaron until this knocked him back a little...

On top of that, we both netted 500 Euro for our skateboarding efforts.

Having said that, you can take the Gyppos out of the "insert derogatory term for a housing area where the majority of people are earning under 60% of the average national income therefore placing them into the poverty bracket" but you can't take take the Gyppos out of "insert derogitive term for a housing area where the majority of people are earning under 60% of the average national income therefore placing them into the poverty bracket".

We hung around a showground each day for over 12 hours which didn't provide too much entertainment other than skateboarding, add in really bad weather and you have to make up your own fun. I might (in fact I know I am) be right in thinking that we find certain things funny that most of the Italian audience watching wouldn't...

Hanging around all day can get you tired, especially when you have to wake up at 6am. Kev found a place to kip and as pictured, Kev is kipping with the Gyppo Army "Value" board.

There was a booth giving out untold amounts of a new Lynx spray as a promotion and Kev and Aaron worked on their new stunts involving cans of Lynx and a lighter. Scotty seemed pretty into this too. Hiding Kev's beers and watching him get pissed off seemed to be a game found fun by everyone involved except Kev, until the point where he punched Aaron in the restaurant where this took place, only for Aaron to throw a harder punch back which landed to his head. So Kev threw back a harder punch which knocked Aaron off of his chair to the amusment of the entire restaurant. All fun and games though!

Kev and Aaron also tried out the Snowboarding simulator too and had a crowd of Italians watching them try it out, I guess they found the part where we fell flat on our arses funny to, judging by their laughs and smiles!

There was some sort of party on Halloween in the trade show and most stalls had a generous supply of booze to themselves and friends. Watching us make new friends and get pissed for fuck all was good too! Kev and a german beardo

A lot went down that weekend and there were both good and bad memories and lots of new friends made which was sick. Aaron hit his head really badly on the vert ramp and had a concussion which wasn't a highlight, but these things happen....

Tequila slams!

Right, we've got this fantastic idea which could resolve in happiness or tears. Hopefully both!

The basic idea is a game of skate on a mini ramp and bringing tequila into it to add to the excitement.

It's £5 to enter, in order for us to cover the costs of the tequila bought and any money left over will be used as a cash prize for the winner/s.

All the entrants names will be written onto a piece of paper and put into a hat. They'll be drawn out in order to see who is going to set the 1st trick, 2nd trick and so on.

Once a trick is set everybody will have to repeat the trick done. If you mess it up, you have to do a shot of tequila and try again. If you mess it up again, you'll have to do another shot. This will go on until the trick is landed or you've had 3 shots of tequila. Then the next person in the order will set a trick and everyone will have to repeat it and will have three chances.

Hopefully this will give everyone a fair chance at the game and will make sure that if the first guy setting a trick is really consistent and a really good skater, it won't end the game within the first few minutes!

All tricks will have to do be done on the coping or any popped tricks will have to be done parallel or above the coping to make sure that anyone who enters doesn't get ridiculously tech riding 2cm up the transition!

If you throw up, you'll be out of the game and excempt from winning any moolah. The winner/s will be either the last man standing or the person who wins the game of skate outright.

The first "Tequila slams" will be held at X site skatepark this Saturday (25th) after the Gyppo Army days demo is over, behind closed doors. All entrants must be over 18 and waivers will have to be signed, as it won't be the skatepark's responsibility if you fuck yourself and slam really badly, it'll be yours!

I haven't posted up on here in a while, that's mainly because I've been either busy actually skaing myself or moaning about being ill!

Right, well first off from recent tales, Kev, Doug and Elliot did a demo at the new park in Stroud in the wet which was pretty funny on Kev's birthday. Tesco's lager was drunk and we nearly had to push the car back on the A40 fly over as we nearly ran out of petrol!

Story #2 off of the top of my head, we did some sort of demo at the new park at Tolworth which has a nice new bowl and a sick little ledge and a few skateable rocks. Everyone from Ktown was there and skating, drinking and bunning which was all good! Then Kev, Aaron and Liv bumped the train back into central London. (Sorry Marcus, we couldn't bell you) and ended up getting pretty pissed in Camden which was funny.

Story #3 which is related to story #2 is that everyone nearly got a tattoo whilst really pissed, I can't really remember too well, but I think the tattooist Andre's tattoo gun broke! If you're looking for a bodge and cheap tattoo give me a shout and I'll sort you out. He's desperate for cash just like everyone else, so any replies are welcome!

Story #4 I bunked the number 18 bus in London twice today. Not really that interesting a story to be honest.

Story #5 The first of the "Gyppo Army Days" demos went of pretty well at Unit 1 in Rochester. We ended up stuck in Rochester airport for a bit which was pretty funny as well as checking out the local slag unit on the way and you could tell Doug had a boner. A discussion on New World Order was inevitable and also happened too on the way. Anyways, the skating went off, Pas tried to bump a free board and failed, whilst Ginger Joe from round that way and Rupert Antoine from Brighton both got a free board respectively as they managed to stick some good tricks!

Some of you might have been subjected to my somewhat ruthless advertising on social networking sites, but here's a post on here for those who don't know.

I'm planning a series of bi-monthly (that's the aim) demos at skateparks titled "Gyppo Army days" at indoor skateparks throughout the country.

Briefly they're a group of sessions with the Gyppo Army team plus whoever I can force into a car/bully into catching a train or coach going to a skatepark to meet up and skate.

The winter is coming and this is a good way to support indoor skateparks by increasing attendances as well as supporting local scenes, it doesn't matter whether you're a sponsored skater or a kid just starting out, the main aim is to have everybody skating together in a large crowd and having fun, then giving some stuff out, having a few drinks, going home and meeting back up again somewhere new a couple of weeks later to do the same thing!

I'm up for doing this with most skateparks in the U.K so if you work/manage/run a skatepark and would like to organise something at your park don't hesitate about getting in touch with me!

Kev and Aaron went to skate Ladbroke Grove handrail. Kev managed to ball sack himself whilst Aaron landed something half decent. 'Nuff said!

I saw Marcus yesterday for the first time since he's come back from four months living over in Cyprus. He's a fair bit bigger since I last saw him (I guess that's down to doing a shit load of drinking and not much skating!) and to my surprise he found the tapes of footage from our first trip abroad to Marseille last November for Doco mag in the café at Kingston skatepark. I guess that's going to end up as some sort of extra in the "Road to nowhere" video coming out around summer next year. Keep your eyes peeled for a bit of skating, some good, some not as well as a lot of dicking about!

Right, I'm off to the offy to stock up on some more booze and fags. I've been sat on the fucking computer all day doing work and generally trying to flog boards to shops so that you lot can buy them! At least you know that your money is partially going to a somewhat good cause!

just come back from Basel in Switzerland. He entered the Etnies European Skateboarding Championships and took home 6th place in the mini ramp comp as well as 400 Euro! Stoked!

Kev's got a sequence of a nosepick pull in into the bank off to the black electric box to some sort of eating shit backflip on the vert wall, whilst aaron has a sequence of an alley oop lien grap over the channel into the vert wall. Good shit!

French Gyppo Army rider is heading down to London next week for 8 days. He's going to be staying at Kev's house and going to be filming for the Gyppo Army video "Road to nowhere" as well as getting used to shopping at Lidl!

...was fucking sick! A load of skating got done and we ended up visiting a shit load of spots and parks all over Northern England and Scotland such as Prissick plaza, Seven Bridges in Newcastle, Perth, Livi, the Mitchell rails in Glasgow, Edinburgh and more. We camped in random fields all week and some people had a shower in Dumbarton's indoor park in the middle of the week.

A lot of funny crap went down, some stories included Porno sitting on a hill by the newly built Whitley Bay skatepark which was full of chavs blasting "tunes" through the megaphone such as Britney Spears and Boyzone. As well as making announcements such as "will the owner of the burberry hat please report to reception" and "will the owner of the chinese/tribal tattoo come to the hill please?" Eventually some local skinhead chav felt the need to show of his macho abilites claiming he could take on all ten of the skaters sitting on the hill and giving us general grief. Porno's quick responses ensured that this encounter was a funny one. Reading back on what I've just written, it's one of those, if you weren't there at the time, you'll never find it funny ones.

Hopefully the footage from the trip will give you an insight into what went on.

Aaron's over in Ireland for a bowl competition and Rapey Dave is filming in Brighton at the moment with Brooks.

Kev and Aaron should be heading to the Concrete Carnival in Penzance and Hayle this weekend which should be good, they're both broke so expect some ripping to happen!

...and hot and fresh out the kitchen, Ant and Ben hit up Swailcliffe skatepark before getting the train home back to Laaannndaaan the day after Rev's 10th birthday jam a week or two back (see footage somewhere soonish.) Loco's James Brown and Dave Edwards were also down for a skate so a rip of the street section followed.

...that Cantelowes local Ben Cruickshank is the latest addition to the Gyppo Army flow team and has been filming hard with Brooks on regular missions along with Ant and Kev.

Dave has been skating hard down south in Brighton and will be going on this year's Nueu Ride With Us tour along with Kev and Aaron. He's got a first light in the works for Sidewalk magazine and he's now on the Etnies UK team! Stoked for him! He's also looking for a job, so if anybody down that way has something going feel free to give Dave a shout!

Doug and Elliot have been over filming in Kingston for our first video "Road To Knowhere" which should be out next summer.

Aaron's finished up The Big Push as Death's special guest and has got a few things up his sleeve, but we're keeping schtum for now!
